Buenos Aires, December 30 (NA) – On the fourth anniversary of the murder of Lara Fernández, a 17-year-old teenager killed by criminals in the Buenos Aires district of Lomas de Zamora, one of the convicted individuals requested parole. Laura Fernández, the victim's mother, spoke with the Argentine News Agency and stated that “one of Alan Benjamin Ávalos's lawyers had requested parole, a benefit they can request on various occasions while the sentence is not yet final.” Ávalos, along with Leandro Nicolás Strassera and Cristian Mario Maidana, were sentenced to over 20 years for the murder that occurred on January 1, 2022, under the charges of “aggravated homicide in the course of robbery with the use of a firearm and the participation of a minor.” Furthermore, Ávalos's sentence was increased to 24 years because a month after committing the crime, he killed a 70-year-old retiree, Hugo Domato, during a robbery in La Matanza. Meanwhile, Ulises Cappelleri, the mother of the murdered young woman's lawyer, told Noticias Argentinas that although the defense attorneys requested the benefit, it is a fact that this is done “periodically, because the law requires it to be reviewed and they are obliged to request it as it is part of their job.” At the same time, Cappelleri made it clear that he opposes it, just like in the case of the prosecution. In line with this, Laura Fernández also refused any possibility related to the release of her daughter's murderer and emphasized that “a benefit cannot be granted when an appeal is in process,” since it was Fernández herself who pushed for the appeals of the sentences. The affected parties appealed the sentences, considering that the classification of the fact should be “homicidis causa” - killing to conceal another crime - a criminal figure that implies life imprisonment for the three murderers. “By dragging out the appeal so much, these things happen. It angers me because they should have resolved the appeal a year ago and they have not resolved anything at all,” pointed out Fernández in conversation with this medium. Likewise, the young woman's mother considered that “instead of helping the victim, they further delay the times and criminals ask for benefits for not having a firm sentence” and expressed: “That angers me and it is outrageous how justice is handled, these things happen due to slowness. On top of all the evil they caused me, this happens.”
